Calling External Text Into Flash

Now this at first might seem tricky, but once you get the hang of it, you realise that all your worries went in vain.

Here we are going to learn how to pull a text file into a flash text box.

The first step we are going to do is to create a new flash movie by clicking on file, then new.

Now, click on the text icon , and go onto the flash movie area.

Left click and drag a box onto the flash movie are and let go after you a somewhat large box.

Now if you do not see the text options window.

Click on windows, panels, then text option.

Click on the text options tab, and choose from the selections:

Dyanmic Text, Multiline, and under Varible type in text (see above).

Now click on windows, actions

now click on the + symbol, and choose action, then load variable.

Enter the following under:

URL: text.txt

Location: Target

Variables: Send Using POST

Uncheck both expression boxes.

Now click on File, Export Movie. Choose a location where you whish to export your swf file.

Now create a normal text file, to do this just click start, run, and type notepad.

In the notepad text are type in the follow:

text=hello, how are you today

Now click on file, save as, and call the text file text.txt

Now make sure to save this file in the same location you exported your swf file to.

launch your swf file, and you should now see:

hello, how are you today
